TORONTO – The Ryerson Rams women's volleyball team scored a three set sweep over the visiting RMC Paladins on Friday night at the Mattamy Athletic Centre. Set scores were 25-9, 25-19, 25-17.

Veronica Livingston (Kelowna, B.C.) was strong on both sides of the ball, recording 13 kills and 11 digs, both match-highs.

The Rams jumped all over the Paladins early and with strong serving from setter Emily Betteridge (Whitby, Ont.) the Rams held a 16-3 advantage at the technical timeout. The Rams were on cruise control from there, winning the set 25-9.

The Paladins weren't discouraged by their first set troubles and came out and made the second set more competitive, however, the Rams were still too much for the visitors as the Rams led 16-11 at the technical before closing the set at 25-19 for a 2-0 advantage.

In the third the home side was doubling up the Paladins 16-8 at the technical timeout and a kill from Jena Bonello (Vaughan, Ont.) ended the set at 25-17 to give the Rams the sweep.

The Rams showed great hustle and commitment to retrieving balls all night, racking up 43 digs to just 12 from the Paladins.

“We wanted to get to playing the way that we like to which is controlling the ball and not making a lot of mistakes and being aggressive,” said head coach Dustin Reid on the team bouncing back after their loss to Toronto last Sunday. “If we hadn't have done that and won I don't think it would feel as good but certainly we did what we wanted to do tonight.”

The Rams improve to 10-2 on the year, and 10-0 against every OUA opponent not named Toronto, while RMC falls to 1-13. Ryerson is back in action on Saturday when they host the Queen's Gaels (8-6) starting at 6:00 p.m.
