WHKY | Voyageurs Shutout by #8 Gryphons
On Saturday night, the Voyageurs women's hockey team was shutout by the #8 ranked team in the country, the Guelph Gryphons, 2-0.

The Voyageurs withheld the Gryphons for much of the first period until Guelph's Mallory Young opened the scoring with just two minutes left in the frame, putting one past Voyageurs goalie, Karen Collins, to head into the intermission up by one.

After a clean first, the intensity of the game increased as both teams were given powerplay opportunities in the frame. The Voyageurs tested Gryphons goalie Aurore Beaulieu just five times on two powerplays, while her squad was denied on all 14 shots by Collins, ending the scoreless second with the Voyageurs still down by one.

After an early Gryphons goal, coutesty of Kaitlyn Lowy just three minutes into the third, the penalty trouble continued for the Voyageurs, increasing the Gryphons' scoring opportunities with a total of 6 minutes in power plays in the third. However, strong penalty kills by the Voyageurs kept the teams at bay and the two goal lead in tact for the Gryphons. The Voyageurs were given their own powerplay opportunity with just three minutes remaining in the game but could not capitalize a man up, ending the game in a 2-0 loss.

The Voyageurs are back in action on Sunday afternoon when they travel to St. Catharines to take on the Brock Badgers at 2pm.
