Mount Allison defeats Dalhousie 3-1

The Mount Allison Mounties bounced back from a first game loss with a victory Sunday 3-1 over the Dalhousie Tigers at Sackville's Tantramar Veterans' Memorial Civic Centre (TVMCC).

The win gives the Mounties a 1-1 record and a slice of 2nd place early in the season.

Head Coach Warren Mason said, ''…the difference was being first on the puck and first         on the scoreboard''.

Kelsey MacDougall (Pennfield, NB) netted the Mounties' first goal in the last minute of the first frame for a 1-0 first period lead.

The Tigers Victoria MacIntosh knotted the score at 8:50 of the second.

The tie was short-lived as the Mounties' Kara Anthony (Toronto, ON) put a powerplay marker in the Dalhousie net at 12:34 for the eventual game-winner. Jessica Campbell (Winnipeg, MB) added a Mounties' insurance goal at 17:01 of the second to give Mount A a 3-1 advantage after 40 minutes.

The teams battled through a scoreless third period.

Mounties' goalie Keri Martin (Brampton, ON) turned back 38 of 39 for the win.

Jessica Severeyns was assessed the loss stopping 31 of 34 for Dalhousie.

Next game for the Mounties is a home ice match-up versus the St. Mary's Huskies, Friday, 21 October, 2016 at 7pm at the TVMCC as part of a Women's Hockey Reunion on the Sackville campus.
