Slow start spoils Gaels efforts

KINGSTON, Ont. (January 7, 2012) - The Gaels came up short to the University of Toronto Varsity Blues this Saturday evening in Kingston. The final score was 67-56.

The Gaels were not ready to start this game, falling behind 18-1 right off the bat. They struggled on both sides of the court, entering the second quarter down 21-7. The second quarter started the same way as the first, with the Blues going on a 7-0 run leading to a 33-17 score at the half. 

The Gaels were not going to give up without a fight. They outscored the Varsity lues in the quarter, bringing the game within ten points. Another streak from the Blues, however, would be the last nail in the coffin for the Gaels, as they struggled against a 8-0 run to begin the quarter. The Gaels showed excellent reseliency after their shaky start, but it was not enough to get ahead. 

Michael Fairine  of Ottawa led the Gaels with 17 points.

Men's basketball action continues next weekend versus Laurentien University on Friday night. Tipof is set for 8:00.
