WATERLOO, Ont. - The Waterloo cross country team had an
impressive showing at their home course during the Don Mills Open
on Saturday on the north campus. On the women's side,
Waterloo finished 1, 2, 3 to claim top spot as a team in the field
of seven teams. The men finished third overall with the HOH
Running Academy claiming top spot while Laurier earned second.
Waterloo's Kristen Flanagan (Kitchener) continued to show her
golden stride capturing first overall for the second time in three
years with a time of 18:33 in the 5km race. Teammate Heather
Dimond (Orangeville) was only nine seconds behind, completing the
course in 18:41. Karina Sils (Oakville) rounded out the
dominating performance by the Warriors with a third place finish
after running a time of 18:45. Stephanie Hinton (Brantford)
finished in the top 15 with her 14th place finish with a time of
19:47.
Top runners for the men included fourth year chemical engineering
student Patrick MacKinnon (Mount Hope) who finished the 7.5km
course in a time of 24:32 good for a 10th place finish. David
Stewart (Mason) wasn't too far behind in 13th spot with a time of
24:50. Rookie runner Brent Scheibelhut (Etobicoke) rounded
out the top three Warrior finishers with an 18th place finish
(25:07).
The Warriors are back at it next weekend at the Guelph Open on
Saturday, October 13.
