OTAWA - The No. 2 nationally-ranked Windsor Lancers women's basketball team captured their second straight Ontario University Athletics (OUA) championship title on Saturday as they defeated the Ottawa Gee-Gees 83-55 at Monpetit Hall in Ottawa.

With the victory, the Lancers complete another sensational season of play in the OUA as they finish 24-1 against Ontario teams this year.

The OUA basketball playoffs are presented by Investors Group.

They will now begin preparations for the 2010 Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) women's basketball championship tournament next weekend in Hamilton, Ont.

On Saturday, the Lancers turned in a dominating performance against the Gee-Gees as they overwhelmed the home team with physical defensive play and outstanding offensive execution.

Windsor came out hot early on as they built a 10-point lead in the first quarter and never looked back. They led 25-12 after one and extended the lead to an incredible 27 points at halftime, all but ending any suspense after the break.

Windsor head coach Chantal Vallée was able to get all team members some extended minutes as they cruised to the 83-55 victory and their second straight OUA provincial championship title.

In the win, Jessica Clemencon (St. Rambert, France) was unstoppable as she finished with 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting and added six rebounds en route to being named the Wilson Canada OUA championship player of the game.

Bojana Kovacevic (Windsor, Ont.) also had a strong showing as she finished with 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Rookie Miah Langlois (Windsor, Ont.) was also impressive as she chipped in with seven points, five rebounds and two assists.

Emilie Morasse (Quebec City) led all Gee-Gees with 11 points while teammate Hannah Sunley-Paisley (Toronto) contributed 11 rebounds.

With their East championship, the Ottawa Gee-Gees also qualify for the nationals, along with host McMaster Marauders.

Seedings for the CIS tournament will be announced on Sunday.
