FREDERICTON: The University of New Brunswick is pleased to announce that BMO Bank of Montreal will be the presenting sponsor of the 2013 CIS Men’s Soccer Championship.

The Bank of Montreal is well known for their support of soccer across Canada from the grass roots level through to the professional level.  At UNB the Varsity Reds soccer field was named the BMO Centre in 2011 while UNB has been one of the Bank of Montreal’s longest standing customers dating back to 1889.

Lee Winchester, Regional Vice President for BMO Bank of Montreal, is excited to enhance an already strong partnership with UNB.

“We have a long standing relationship with UNB and in particular the UNB soccer program. We thought that it [enhanced partnership] would also benefit our grass roots cause which is soccer across Canada.”

As at past championships hosted at UNB, the Varsity Reds will bring in school children from the community to cheer for the teams and get a feel for how soccer is played at the university level.  Currently we have commitment from more than 500 children and expect about 750 to attend the two early games on the Thursday and Friday of the championship weekend – November 7-10.

This also fits with the BMO Bank of Montreal vision. “We like to think of ourselves as the soccer bank.  And this fits right into our overall strategy,” continued Winchester.

“We’re very pleased that BMO has chosen to support the CIS soccer championship financially,” commented John Richard, Director of Athletics at UNB.

“With corporate support such as this it helps us [UNB] to showcase our teams and to continue to bring national championships to our campus,” continued Richard.
