ArcelorMittal Dofasco CIS athletes of the week (#8): McGill’s Hough, Calgary’s Russo honoured

OTTAWA (CIS) – Taylor Hough, a hockey player from McGill University, and Dominic Russo, a soccer player from the University of Calgary, are the ArcelorMittal Dofasco CIS female and male athletes of the week for the period ending Oct. 25, 2015.

Hough, a fourth-year international development student from Toronto, posted a shutout and saved 48 of 49 shots in two victories over nationally third-ranked Montreal and Ottawa that propelled the Martlets (2-0-0) to the top of the CIS rankings. In a 2-1 road victory against the No. 3 Carabins last Friday, the 21-year-old goaltender turned aside 27 of 28 shots in regulation and overtime before stopping five of six attempts in the shootout. The following night, in a 5-0 decision over the Gee-Gees, she stopped all 21 shots to earn her first career whitewash.

Dalhousie hockey player Sarah Robichaud, Toronto hockey player Kristi Riseley and Trinity Western player Sophie Carpentier were also nominated for the women's award.

Russo, a fourth-year business student from Calgary, was in on eight of 10 goals as the Dinos (8-2-2) swept a two-game series over Winnipeg to secure first place in the Canada West Prairie Division and home-field advantage for their quarter-final matchup against Trinity Western. The veteran forward tallied a hat-trick and two assists in Saturday's 5-0 win and added two goals and one helper in a 5-1 decision on Sunday. Thanks to his impressive weekend, Russo became the Dinos' all-time leading scorer with 24 career markers and the first U of C player since 1982 to claim the Canada West scoring title with 19 points (15-4-19) in 12 contests this fall.
