OTTAWA (CIS) – Jessica King, a soccer player from Trinity
Western University, and Charles Philibert-Thiboutot, a
cross-country runner from Laval University, are the ArcelorMittal
Dofasco CIS female and male athletes of the week for the period
ending Oct. 12, 2014.
King, a fifth-year psychology major from Liverpool, England, scored
both game-winning goals as the nationally top-ranked Spartans
(9-0-1) remained undefeated in conference play thanks to a 1-0
victory over No. 4 Victoria and a 3-0 shutout against archrival
UBC. The talented midfielder tallied the only goal of the game in
the 68th minute last Friday night against the previously undefeated
Vikes, and opened the scoring in the 28th minute of
Saturday’s win over the Thunderbirds. King is currently tied
atop the Canada West scoring leaders list with 10 markers,
including a league-leading six game-winners.
Cross-country runners Ellen Chappell of Dalhousie and Jullien Flynn
of McGill, as well as Windsor soccer and hockey player Krystin
Lawrence were also nominated for the women’s award.
Philibert-Thiboutot, a first-year public relations student from
Quebec City in his fifth-year of eligibility, dominated a field of
100 competitors at the AUS-RSEQ interlock meet in Antigonish, N.S.,
on Saturday. The 2013 CIS bronze medallist completed the
eight-kilometre course in 25 minutes 17.37 seconds to beat his
closest rival, teammate Benjamin Raymond, by almost 20 seconds. It
was the first university race of the season for
Philibert-Thiboutot, who wrapped up his outdoor track and field
