Rocque, a third-year physical education and recreation student from Fort Saskatchewan, Alta., skipped the Pandas to their first-ever national title at the CIS-Curling Canada championships, presented by Travelers, at the KW Granite Club in Waterloo, Ont. The 21-year-old guided her troops to an 8-1 overall record, including an 8-6 win over Thompson Rivers in Saturday’s gold-medal final that avenged their only loss of the preliminary round. A two-time world junior champion, Rocque curled 81% in round-robin competition, 79% in a 6-2 semifinal victory against Wilfrid Laurier and 79% in the championship match.
Carly Howard, a curler from Wilfrid Laurier, was also nominated for the women’s award.
